The Printing Press: Bonus Material

11. At approximately 10:30pm Revere heads towards Charleston in a small boat. This map of 1775 Boston shows Revere's exit point from Boston by water, and Dawes exit from Boston on horseback.

12 - 15. Modern pictures of the water route taken by Revere. As he crossed the harbor his small boat passed under the bowsprit of the HMS Somerset, a warship rated for 64 guns. If discovered, what might have happened?

16 - 17. Revere lands in Charleston. There he will wait for a signal. Will the troops cross by water, significantly reducing the time of their mission, or by land, which will take longer?

18 - 21. 11:00pm. One if by land, two if by sea. Revere sees two lanterns lit and hung in the steeple of the Christ Church or "Old North Church." The troops will cross over to Charleston by boats. Revere rides off towards Lexington.

22 - 23. Artist renditions of "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere."

24 - 26. 12:05pm. Hancock-Clarke House. Samuel Adams and John Hancock are staying here. Revere and Dawes both arrive from different routes and warn the two that they might be captured if they do not leave before the troops arrive.
